How Do Portable Hyperbaric Chambers Work?

The short answer
A portable hyperbaric chamber uses a sealed, reinforced fabric enclosure connected to an air compressor. The compressor pushes filtered air into the chamber, raising internal pressure above sea level, while pressure-relief valves regulate the maximum pressure and continuous airflow keeps the internal air fresh.

The enclosure
The chamber body is made from reinforced technical fabric with sealed seams and a heavy-duty pressure zip. Windows allow you to see out and operators to see in.
Internal supports or a frame maintain shape so the chamber holds a usable interior volume when inflated.
The compressor and filtration
An external compressor supplies air through a hose. Filtration is used so that the air entering the chamber is clean, and continuous airflow prevents carbon dioxide build-up.
Compressor specifications differ by model. Always use the compressor supplied or specified by the manufacturer.
Pressure regulation and safety valves
Pressure-relief valves cap the internal pressure at the designed maximum, and gauges let the operator monitor the session.
Modifying, bypassing or overriding safety components is never appropriate.
Optional oxygen concentrators
Some setups include an oxygen concentrator used according to manufacturer instructions. Oxygen enrichment raises fire-safety considerations that must be respected.
